C4K for April

1. C4K #8

This post is from Ethan M., a student in Mrs. Lombard’s English class in Oklahoma. Ethan wrote a book review about a book called Freak the Might by Rodman Philbrick. Based on his review, this book is a very short book and easy to read. It is a nonfiction book that tells a story about a kid name freak and his giant friend max. This book has many conflicts in it, which can keep a reader interested. Ethan believe that a book with conflict is a good quality book.

blogcomments"Hey Ethan! My name is Tyeshay B. from the University of South Alabama's EDM 310 Class. I enjoyed reading your book review and I agree that a book with conflict is a good book. It keeps the reader interested and wanting to know more. I can't put down a book that has conflict because I am glued to every page. I wish that you wrote a little more about the plot and conflicts, but other than that it seems to be a interesting book. Great post!"

On April 23, 2015, Ethan M of Mrs. Lombard's Class, posted a post titled "Mr. Brown's Precept". He posted a short post stating that it is better to be kind than to be right. He emphasizes that being only right can bring unnecessary results that are bad. He says to be kind even if it means that you are wrong.

My Comment:

Hi Ethan M!

You can call me Ty. I am a student from the University of South Alabama. I really enjoyed reading your post. Your post is very wise. I agree that being kind can benefit any situation. It can keep feelings from being hurt and keep from losing a friend. Kindness can solve a lot of problems!

Thank you for sharing!

On April 9, 2015, Ethan M. posted a post titled "My Beary Own Business". You would think that this post is about bears, but it is not. Ethan used that title so that he could win your attention. I laughed when I saw this post. This post was about Ethan's idea about starting his own business called "Bunch O Stuff". He will sale the "day-to-day" things that people use and he will offer delivery service for those who need it. He believes that his business will make a lot of money... and so do I.

My Comment:

Ha! You are very funny Ethan!

I did not expect your post to be about a business. I like your idea and I believe that you will make some money. I also liked your catchy title. Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more of your creative post.

Sincerely,

Tyeshay B. (University of South Alabama)

BLOG POST 13

What Did I leave out?

If I had to create my own blog assignment, it would say the following:

Think about your major in education. Why did you choose your major out of all of the other education majors (for example, if you chose to be a secondary education major, explain why you chose this major instead of elementary, special ed, physical ed, music ed, etc.). Why is it special to you? What do you want to achieve after you receive your degree? Will you use other teaching methods than Project Based Learning?

superpic
My answer:
My major is Elementary Education. I chose this major because I love education and children. I love to learn and I believe that education is the keys to the world and I love children and I think that they are adorable and fun to work with. I have a passion for mentoring and I believe that it is beneficial to start mentoring children when they are young and fresh. I know that teaching will allow me to become the mentor that I want to be. I believe it will be fun to teach elementary students and it will allow me to be a positive example among the youth that I will teach. It is like getting the best of both worlds in one career. I can educate while building them to become the "people of tomorrow".

After receiving my degree, I want to start teaching and perhaps, work for programs like the Boys and Girls Club.

Will I use other teaching methods other than Project Based Learning? Yes I will. I want to use Project Based Learning in my future classroom, but I also value using pencil and paper. My students will use technology in the classroom, but there will be days that they will complete projects on poster-boards and other arts and craft materials. I want my students to become computer literate, but I do not want them to lose their ability to write neatly and legibly. Pens, pencils, and paper still have value in my eyes.

My assigned teacher was Mr. Royan Lee of the Spicy Learning Blog . On March 23, 2013, Lee created a post titled "Film Yourself Teaching to Deconstruct Your Instruction". Overall, this post was about his experience being filmed while he was teaching. Lee stated how surprised he was at the response he received when he and his colleagues watched the video of him teaching. He noticed so much more about himself than he realized. He noticed his posture and hand gestures more than usual. He emphasizes being your own judge and critic.

My Comment: Hey Mr. Royan Lee,
My name is Tyeshay B. from the University of South Alabama and I currently take EDM 310 class. I enjoyed reading your post. I think that watching yourself teach every now and then is a good idea and a great way to critique your own lectures.
I have recorded myself teaching for a class project and I enjoyed watching it because I got a chance to see myself and learn about myself more. I noticed that I use my hands a lot when I am teaching! LOL

BLOG POST 11

What Can We Learn About Teaching and Learning From These Teachers?

1. After watching the video "Back To the Future" by Brian Crosby, I learned that active learning is very beneficial to the education of children. Brian Crosby spoke about doing a hot air balloon project with his students. The hot air balloon had a camera on it, so that they could see what they look like from thousands of feet in the air. After they finished their project, they had to write about what they saw. In my opinion, activities such as the one Crosby spoke about encourages and teaches students how to be learners. It is a good thing when students are having fun, learning, and experimenting at the same time.

2. After watching the "Blended Learning Cycle" Video by Mr. Anderson, I learned that blended learning is taking the components of learning from the classroom, mobile (hands-on learning), and online learning and incorporating them. Blended learning really focuses on students asking questions and investigating. I think that it is a great idea to incorporate in the classroom. I like the part where Anderson have conferences with his students to check their understanding before they take a quiz. I believe that this help build teacher-student relationships in the classroom, which benefits the student because of constant communication with his/her teacher. Communication allows the student to understand the teacher and what he expects and it helps the teacher understand the student's strength and weaknesses.

3. While watching the video "Making Thinking Visible" , I saw how Mark Church had his students to complete a History project. I saw how he instructed the students to put their thoughts on paper (making thinking visible). I like this concept because it allows the students to see what they are thinking and allowing them to be creative. It also allows the students to see what others are thinking and it encourages learning from other people. I also liked how he had the students working in groups, where they exchanged ideas and learned how to work and communicate with each other.

4. Watching Sam Pane's video gave me enthusiasm about being a teacher. I like seeing how excited and creative the students were being while creating their superheros. I believe I enjoyed watching the students create them as much as he enjoyed teaching them this lesson. I like the lesson because I believe that creating a superhero gives the students a sense of identity. While they are making their hero, they are learning about themselves (their likes and dislikes). If a student learns about himself, will it be easier for him to choose a career? I believe so and a activity like the one in this video is beneficial to helping student learn about themselves and other people. I would definitely recommend this activity to other teachers.

5. While watching Dean Shareski's video on Project Based Learning, I learned that creating projects that relate more to the students interest are more beneficial. When students can relate to what their school work then enthusiasm and engagement is enhanced. Also, subject integration is a creative way to teach students about more than one subject at a time. This helps the teacher with time management. For example, a teacher could instruct her students to write a poem about World War II (which allows to the students to show what they have learned about History and English).

6. While watching Roosevelt Elementary's PBL Program , I learned that Project Based Learning is in depth learning, that is research based and involves teachers collaborating together in order to encourage students to work together and learn on their own. It allows the students to have a sense of ownership and being able to make their own decisions (which can help them practice decision-making skills). Also, it helps enhance their communication skills, public speaking skills, and other social skills. This is a very informative video and you should watch it!

This post is from Paige S. From Mrs. Lombard's English Class in Oklahoma. She read a book called Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief By Rick Riordan. The setting is in New York. It has three main characters plus a few more characters who are not main characters. Percy Jackson is the son of a god and a human (as known as a half-blood or demi-god). Percy gets kicked out of every boarding school he attends. When he gets to a school called Yancy Academy, he is attacked a lot by monsters and people in Greek Mythology and he does not know why. When he goes to camp half-blood, he finds out everything. It seems that the God named Zeus' master bolt has been stolen from him and Percy has been accused of it. After Percy learns of this information, He and his friends go on a quest around the United States to find Zeus's bolt.

MY COMMENT:
"Hey Paige! I am Tyeshay (Ty-e-shay) B. from the University of South Alabama.

Wow! this book sounds interesting to read. I am a fan of Greek Mythology that is why it sounds so interesting. Have you researched the history of these gods? If you have not, then I recommend that you do because it would make the fictional story more interesting to read!

I compliment you on your book review. It is well written and informative. Keep up the Good work!"

This post is also by Paige S. of Mrs. Lombard's Class in Oklahoma. She writes a short post about her Christmas break. She traveled to the Southwestern part of the United States. She visited New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. She visited Disney Land and she saw the Meteor Crater in Arizona.

MY COMMENT:
"Hey Paige!  I am from the University of South Alabama's EDM 310 Class.

I wish I went with you on your trip to the South west of the U.S. It sounds like you had a lot of fun. I wish you wrote more about it (sad face), especially about disneyland. Is it different from DISNEY WORLD? Also, did you know that the crater is over 10,000 years old? Amazing!

Great post!"

3. C4K #7
This post was written by Sean J. of Mrs. Lombard's English Class in Oklahoma. He writes about the story of Jonah in the bible. Jonah was angry at God, so he choose to run away from Tarshish. Jonah wanted God to take his life away, but God refused. One day, God made Jonah a plant for shade outside the city of Ninevah. When the plant died, Jonah was sad. God asked Jonah was he sad about the plant, but not the people of Ninevah. After that Jonah understood what God was saying and helped the people of Ninevah before the city was destroyed.
Sean says that the moral of the story is that we should care about other people not just ourselves.

MY COMMENT:
"Hey Sean J!

My name is Ty-e-shay B from the University of South Alabama's EDM 310 Class. I enjoyed reading your post about Jonah. I believe that it has a great message in it and I think that you should try to remember it for the rest of your life because people will appreciate you when you love them as well as yourself.

Thanks for sharing! :-) "

What Can We Learn From Mrs. Cassidy?

I. I thought that the children in the video "First Graders in Ms. Cassidy's Class were adorable! I enjoyed seeing the different things they learned, seeing the tools that they used, and seeing what they created. I believe Mrs. Cassidy is creating future Jimmy Neutrons! (LOL)

kathycassidy

II. Kathy Cassidy's Interviews

1. While watching the Interview with Kathy Cassidy Part I , I learned about protecting students while they are active on the internet. If I were to have my students create blogs on the internet, I like her technique of keeping their last name's private, but since criminals are extremely crafty I would have my students use nicknames instead. I think that having students to create blogs is a great technique for incorporating Art and English, and other subjects together. I would definitely consider the blog project for my future students!

2. In the Interview with Kathy Cassidy Part II , Dr. Strange asked what does she prefer a teacher to start with (blogging, twitter, videos). She stated that a teacher should start with what they are interested in. I agree, but I would start my students with blogging because I believe that they can accomplish a lot more than having a twitter. Blogs give students more room to be creative, to write, and network. I also would like to start them off with blogs because I believe it is safer and they could learn how to network with each other. After my students are comfortable with blogging and they know how to be safe with strangers, then I would introduce them to social sites and creating videos.

3. While watching the Interview with Kathy Cassidy Part III , I learned about the difference between cheating and collaborating. As a future teacher I would not be concerned about my students looking at other students' blogs because it is just like going to a wikipedia website (for example) and getting ideas and information. As long as my students are not verbatim with the information that they use then they are okay. I will grade them by how they present the information they used in their own words.

What Can Teachers and Students Teach Us About Project Based Learning?

1. After watching the video "Seven Essentials for Project Based Learning",

BLOG POST 8

What Can We Learn About Teaching and Learning From Randy Pausch?

BLOG POST 7

HOW DO WE ALL BECOME LEARNERS?

I. Within the next year and a half I need to start thinking about and create a teaching method that will help me teach my students using Project Based Learning. As a future teacher, I do not want to "handicap" my students or in other words, make them too dependent on the teacher for every single thing. I do not want to do their work for them, instead I want them to be thinkers and learn how to gather information from others and using their technology. I want to guide them and teach them how to become learners and critical thinkers. I want my students to be independent and self-sufficient because those skills will help them in the future.

II. What did I learn from each video?

1. While watching Dr. Strange's video about using iMovie and the Alabama Virtual Library in Kindergarten , I learned that we, as teachers, should not underestimate our students! Watching this video has me enthusiastic about seeing a KINDERGARTEN student use iMovie and AVL. That is amazing for a child to do all of these things at a age where they can barely read. I would love to see them in action using these tools! I believe that teachers like Elizabeth Davis and Michelle Bennett are doing a good thing by allowing students to play around with the things that students use in college because it can boost a child's self esteem. If they start to feel like their work in school is too hard, then they can always remember that they did the same projects in kindergarten that the students in EDM 310 were doing while in college, which helps them believe in themselves.

2. While watching the video "We All Become Learners" , I learned that we are all learners and teachers. In the classroom you have teachers teaching students, students teaching other students, and students teaching the teacher. When you have a classroom where everyone knows that they learn from each other and are working together then that helps students learn how to share, how to work with a team, and become less selfish. Also, it helps students become more independent. Instead of relying on the teacher for every single thing, students can rely on each other and help each other.

This post is from Cassidy P. from Mr. Boylen's class. In this post she did a report on Jennifer Lawrence (also known as JLaw). Lawrence is an actress who stars in the infamous movie called Hunger Games. She is 24 years old and she has a birthday in August. Her Zodiac sign is a Leo. She is involved in many charities such as World Food Programme, Feed America, The Thirst Project. Cassidy believes that she is a great role model.

My Comment:
"I enjoyed reading your post about Jennifer Lawrence. I learned so much about her while reading your post. I remember her from the movie Hunger Games, but I did not know that she played in 19 major movies so far! I love the story of how she was discovered. If I was JLaw, I would think it is weird for a random person to ask for my picture and my mom's phone number. How do you feel about that? Do you have an interest in acting? If so, I believe she will be a good role model for you because she acts very well. Thank you for the information about her. I love to hear about young and successful adults."

2. C4K #2
This post is from Michael E. from Mr. Boylen's class. This post was a very short post about foods that Americans eat. He posted pictures of breakfast foods like cereal, lunch meals like burgers and sandwiches, and desserts like chocolate cake! This post help me realize the type of things that Americans eat.

My Comment:
" Hi Michael! The food on this post look very good, especially the chocolate cake! I think that American love dessert because we will eat it at anytime of the day! LOL. But I have a question, what was the purpose of this post? Was this post meant for foreign students to read?"

3. C4K #3
This post is by Sierra S. from Mrs. Lombard’s English class in Oklahoma. Sierra writes about a book called Counting By Sevens by Holly Goldberg Sloan. It is about a girl named Williow Chance. Chance is in the 7th grade and she becomes friends with a Vietnamese girl name Mai. After Williow and Mai go out for ice cream, Williow finds out that her parents died in a car accident and Mai’s family takes her in. Overall this story is about overcoming obstacles like hurt, depression, anxiety and love. Based on Sierra’s book review, this is a good read and has a great message.

"Hi Sierra! My name is Tyeshay B. from the University of South Alabama's EDM 310 class. I enjoyed reading your post. It was very interesting to read and well written. Based on your book review, I would recommend this book for anybody. The world need books like this because there is so much hurt and depression in the world and people can benefit from a story like Willow's story. Thank you so much for sharing!"
P.S. watch your spelling... it is VIETNAMESE not Vitnamese. :-)

4. C4K #4
This post is from Alivia C from Mrs. Lombard’s Class in Oklahoma. In this post she writes a very short overview about the sitcom called Pretty Little Liars. In this episode, five girls get put into jail for the murder of their friend named Mona. In the process of going to jail, they are kidnapped by their stalker named “A” and placed in a doll house. Alivia believes that the hidden character named "A" is the boyfriend of Aria named Andrew.

"Hi Alivia! My name is Tyeshay B from the University of South Alabama's EDM 310 Class. I enjoyed reading your post about the PRETTY LITTLE LIARS sitcom. I have seen the first season of the show and it is interest but tedious. I feel like they keep the character name A hidden so that people can keep watching. I feel that they should give viewers more reasons to watch the show. But anyway, "A" could be Andrew. Who knows, he could be working for the police and he could be only dating Aria in order to find out her secrets."

C4T SUMMARY

My assigned teacher's name is J.F. Hadley. He is a middle school teacher that teaches history.

1. C4T #1
On September 13, 2014, Hadley posted about doing a activity inspired by his book Unleashing Student Superpowers. He asked his students to identitfy something that they think would be a challenge for them in school. Then he had them to image student superpowers that will help them deal with those challenges and write them down on three post-it notes and place them on a bulletin board. This activity taught him a lot about his students (who they were and what they wanted).

blog
My Comment : "Hey Mr. Hadley! My name is Tyeshay (Ty-e-shay) Biggs from EDM 310. I enjoyed reading this post. I think that your activity was a great idea. I will make note of it because I will use it with my future students. I think that it is a great "ice breaker" activity. That way I will learn about my students and they can learn about each other. Thank you for sharing!"

2. C4T #2
On September 6, 2014, Hadley posted about doing a activity called the "Identity Project" . He instructed his students find a place in the classroom and sit quietly for four minutes (without pens, paper, notepads, or anything else that would distract their minds.). During their quiet time, the students were thinking of ideas for their projects. They were excited!

My Comment: "Hey Mr. Hadley! I like this activity that you posted about. It shows students why taking their time to think is important. It teaches them how to think (such as finding a quiet place to concentrate) and being patient. Good study habits can come from this activity (because studying requires thinking). This  activity can also show students the importance of focusing on themselves is important. Having quiet time to yourself is a great way of getting to know who are and what kinds of ideas you have. I love it!"

BLOG POST 6

What do you learn from these conversations with Anthony Capps?

1. In video one, I learned that project based learning is not only a need to show that a student has achieved something, but a mean to get them to learn something. To assign a good project, the projects should:
(1) Have an authentic audience so that the students are rewarded for the work and motivated.
(2) Reflect student interest.
(3) Should involve community (connect students with the "real world")

2. In video two, I learned that every thing may not go as planned in a classroom. For example, a child may have to do an alternate project because of religious beliefs or by the advisory of the parent. By this fact, I know that as a teacher I should create alternate lesson plans, so that all of my students can receive an enjoyable learning experience. Also, I learned that project based learning is not intended for students to memorize information and "burp back", but the intent is for the student to be a learner.

3. In video three, I learned that iCurio is an online tool that teachers can use to assist students with their learning development. iCurio allows students to safely surf websites while being educated because it filters the websites that the students are viewing. The teacher who uses iCurio do not have to worry about their students viewing websites with inappropriate content. This gives the teacher more room to teach instead of patrolling the computer screens for inappropriate websites.

4. In video four, I learned that discovery ed. help students retain more information while learning and enriches their research experience.

5. In video five, I learned that if you are not a learner yourself then it is impossible to be an educator (educators constantly learn).

6. In video six, I learned that it is best to use technology instead of teaching technology. The difference between teaching technology and using technology is that teaching technology is only teaching your students how to use technology, but using it means that you integrate their technological skills with the lesson plan. For example, if you are assigning your students to learn how to operate a smart board as that day's lesson then that is teaching technology, but if you are assigning your students to do a powerpoint on birds and allowing your students to present their powerpoint using the smart board then that is using technology.
If you use technology then they will learn how to use technology while learning information, which can make it more fun! The purpose behind using technology is to keep students excited about what they are doing and to share what they are doing.

7. In video seven, I learned that my student may not learn everything in one day, but they may learn in a year's time of school. So, when I am creating my lesson plan then think about what I am going to be teaching over a year's time period. Also, when I am creating a lesson plan, I need to find a way to get my students' attention, keep their attention, and measure what they have learned.

BLOG POST 5

I have learned that a PLN (Personal Learning Networks) is a network that is designed for organizing information and keeping record of the websites that you use. It is like your own personal assistant or organizer. I can definitely see myself using one as a teacher! I know as a teacher I will be busy, busy, busy and with the PLN I can keep up with websites and other material that I use as a reference (so I do not have to worry about forgetting things).
I used symbaloo as my PLN and I like it! It is a great source for organization and I added EDM 310 blogspot to my network so that I will not forget it. I’m excited about learning more later on about PLN!

BLOG POST 4

What do we need to know about asking questions to be an effective teacher?

To be an effective teacher, we need to know that questions are asked in order for something to be understood or to bring clarity. Questions help an individual gain more knowledge which takes a person into depths of information that seemed impossible to learn. Is it true that no question is a dumb question? I would say yes because if there are not any questions then how would our minds grow? If there are not any questions then how can your doctor find a better way to treat your cancer? How would teachers facilitate their lesson plans? How would businesses create new ways to make money? How could this paragraph be written? It is an evitable fact that questions are more important than we think that they are.
In Ben Johnson’s article, “The Right Way to Ask Questions in the Classroom”, he stated that questions need to be specific. After reading this article, not only did I realize how important asking questions were, but I realized that asking the right questions were important also. Did you know that asking the right questions can help your students learn more and help you (as the instructor) judge their understanding? Asking the right questions mean to ask open-ended questions (questions that are not yes/no questions and ask for details). For example, you may ask a student to tell you the details of World War II, instead of asking if World War II started in 1914. If you ask for a detailed answer, you will see how much a student understands and if they have been studying like they were supposed to.
In conclusion of my research I have learned that in order to be an effective teacher, one must know the importance of questions and asking the RIGHT questions!

How Can You Provide Meaningful Feedback to Your Peers?

The videos ( What is Peer Editing? and Writing Peer Review Top 10 Mistakes ) and slide show ( Peer Edit With Perfection Tutorial ) about peer editing offered information that will not only help us now, but will help us in the future (on jobs and in life). I agree that peer editing is a learning experience and that we need to learn how to use constructive criticism on our peers (since we will be future teachers one day). Peer editing will prepare us to learn how to deal with our future students and their parents. Peer editing will help us learn how to talk to others in a professional manner and teach us how to consider others when offering them constructive criticism. Having peer editing skills can help us keep a job, make new friends and keep the old ones! The videos and slide show was very interesting, informative, and beneficial.

Being positive, using compliments, and being specific are great ways to mention corrections to your classmates. Using those three techniques will keep you from offending others and help present your suggestion in a pleasant manner instead of rude and mean. I've learned that it is all about word choice. The words we use will make the difference between a rude comment and a positive comment. It is a great idea to practice what you are going to say, by speaking it out loud as if you are face-to-face with that person. This will help you hear what you sound like (as far a sounding rude or nice). By watching these videos, I have learned that the goal is to provide help to another person by helping them learn and not to tear down their character.

BLOG POST 2

What will teaching in the 21st Century be Like?

1. The central message of the video, "Mr. Dancealot" , was that just because you know information does not mean that you are a teacher. The author makes the case for this conclusion by demonstrating a teacher without teaching skills. In the video, you can see a teacher that knows what he is talking about, but he does not have experience with delivering information. You can see that the students are confused, the teacher is not standing in the correct position in order for the students to see what he is doing, and their is not any teacher-student interaction. I agree with the author's conclusion because teaching skills are needed in order for students to understand the information given. There is more to teaching than giving information. A teacher must be creative with their delivery, because one method of teaching may not satisfy all of your students.

2. After viewing the video, "Teaching In the 21st Century" , I believe that Roberts thinks that teaching in the 21st Century means to allow students to research and learn from self-study instead of learning from given information (hard facts). Teaching in the 21st Century will involve a lot more technology than in the pass years of education. Roberts believes that students should be taught to apply, analyze, evaluate, and create (I agree). As a future educator, I believe I will be affected by the new teaching method, but not in a horrible way. I believe teaching with technology will make teaching fun and allow me to interact with my students more and help me teach multiple subjects and/or skills with one assignment. With technology (especially internet and computers) students will learn how to research materials and write about them. This sounds like a great way to create an easy history and english project.

3. After watching the video,"The Networked Student" , I believe being a network student is a great way to learn. It teaches you how to research information, network with other people across the world (which increases communication skills), enhance study skills, enhance reading skills and vocabulary, and builds self-sufficient skills. I believe that teaching your students how to think and research on their own prepares them for life. When you teach your student how to be independent researchers then learning becomes easier than memorizing facts. If you teach your student how to be independent then wouldn't s/he be successful at time management (which could help s/he keep a job and pay his or her bills on time)? Being a network student will be time consuming, but the growth and learning experience is priceless.

4. The thesis of Vicki Davis' video, "Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts" , is teaching your students how to learn. In response to that statement, I think that it is a good strategy. As a student, I can say that it seems that I learn easier when I research information on my own verses memorizing facts. It is a fun experience, especially when I am working with other students and learning from them as well. Teaching students to research information and do things on their own, helps them be better students.

5. Who's Ahead in the Learning Race? After watching this video, It seems that the elementary school children are ahead as far as using technology more than college students. I understand the point that Dr. Strange is making, but I do not believe that using technology more makes elementary school children ahead of the learning race. Just because they are using technology more than college students does not mean that they know more than college students. College students are receiving an education just like elementary students. The skills that they gain by using technology (such as writing skills, social skills, and research skills) college students have already gained or are gaining (the only difference is that we have gained skills by using pencil and paper more than technology).

6. After watching the video, "Flipping the Classroom" , I asked myself, "Is flipping a classroom new to me?" The answer to this question is no. I remember completing homework assignments that include material that I learned that day and some material that I did not recognize (it would be a bonus problem). The next day, the teacher would go over the homework and the bonus problem (which introduced us to the new material that we would learn that day.) I believe that this method will be useful as a teacher because it helps the students learn how to become thinkers and enthusiastic about what they are learning. If I include a few new problems on their homework assignment for bonus points, then I can expect some students to attempt the problem for extra points (which builds enthusiasm and competitive skills).

7. After reading, "Bring the Locker Room into the Classroom", I decided that teaching students to be analytical and critical thinkers is a great way to teach. I like the story about how the coach embedded problem-solving skills with in the players. The team analyzed the other team and figured out how the could use their strengths to conquer the other team's weakness. Teaching students to be problem-solvers is a good teaching strategy because it helps the students become good-decision makers and it teaches them how to make good decisions.

BLOG POST 1

1. What are the things (if any) you have heard about EDM310? Some things that I have heard about EDM310 is that it is rigorous and a tough class to pass.
2. What fears (if any) do you have about EDM310? I do not have any fears about EDM310. I believe that I can conquer the battle. Ha!
3. Compare and contrast EDM310 with other courses you have taken in college or high school. EDM310 is different form other courses because it involves much more technology time and encourages students to be self-sufficient much more. It is similar to other courses because it involves interaction with other students and the professor, encourages students to be punctual, and it allows time for students to be creative with their work.
4. What do you think will be the most difficult thing for you in EDM310? The most difficult thing that I think would be difficult for me in EDM310 would be being consistent with devoting 9 hours a week to assignments... But I believe I can do it!
5. What is the best way for you to address this "most difficult" aspect of EDM310? The best way that I can address the most difficult aspect of EDM310 is to keep a positive attitude about the class and its requirements and use the resources given to me wisely (such as the students and staff that we can call or email if we have trouble).
6. What questions do you still have about EDM310? What ideas do you have about how to address those questions? At this moment I do not have any questions or worries. I am going to make the best out of this semester!

2. Hello my fellow classmates! My name is Tyeshay (Ty-e-shay) Biggs and I am a junior here at USA, majoring in elementary education. I love to teach, instruct and advise; help anyone in need; and most importantly, I LOVE PEOPLE, especially the kids. I am 23 years old and I have been born and raised here in Mobile, AL. I once lived in Cleveland, Ohio at the age of two and spent the rest of my life in Mobile. I have not lived many places but I have traveled to many places (like Mexico and Canada). I love to travel and site-see (I'm always down for a road trip)!
I have a total of 1 sister and 4 brothers (I love them all)! I am the baby and proud of it. Anyway, I graduated high school from W.P. Davidson and I was number 9 of my class with a 4.3 GPA.... I'm proud of that too! I ended up at south because it was close to home and they had the best offer as far as pursuing an education. My major interest, besides being a teacher, is mentoring teenage girls and becoming a motivational speaker.

3. I want to enter the field of education because I am people person and I love children. I like to teach and help others understand different concepts and ideas. I like to guide and mentor so I think that being a teacher is great way to do the things that I love.

4. The work of an educator entails studying and being up-to-date on new information. It is important to know about technology and other new products, especially if your students use them. If you are up-to-date then their is a possibility of facilitating your lesson plans and helping your students understand the material better.
The work of an educator entails maintaining a positive attitude. Maintaining a positive attitude helps you deal with the stress that you may experience at school while teaching and it helps you show your students how to be positive through their day at school (you are also a mentor when you are an educator).

5. This picture demonstrates my passion. I want to work with children more than anything and I want to become a better teacher.

6. Another interesting fact about me is that I like to write poems, music and stories and i would love to use my gift of writing to teach my students.
